Important Information from the Town of Jerusalem Assessor
***Please read entire letter***

Property owner have been sent 2024 Assessment Notifications to the address on file. This assessment change may be a result of a market adjustment, new construction and/or a physical change(s) to the property. This preliminary assessment is based on the market value of your property as derived from recent selling prices for similar properties and local economic indicators. This preliminary assessment will become your property’s assessment and will appear on the May 1, 2024 tentative assessment roll, unless it is adjusted through the informal review process.

If you are satisfied with the preliminary assessment and you feel that your property is assessed fairly at market value, no action is required.

If you are not satisfied with your assessed value, you can contact the Assessor’s office to schedule an informal assessment review over the phone, come in during the open office hours or send an email.

The Assessor will have open office hours from 8 am to 1 pm Monday through Friday to hear concerns on a first come first serve basis. To schedule an informal assessment over the phone or outside the open office hours please call 315-595-2840 and leave a message. All informal hearings must take place on or before May 1, 2024.

If you are not available for an informal assessment review over the phone, you may submit your concern(s) in writing. All written concerns should be in the assessor’s office on or before May 1st 2024 and can be submitted by mailing/emailing all supporting documentation to the Assessor’s office.

Before meeting with the assessor, make sure to provide the Assessor’s office with any and all material that would apply to your reasoning for the assessment reduction. A drop box is located at the front of the Town Building. Your information may include, but is not limited to: recent appraisal reports, similar sales, proof of condition by providing interior photos, etc.

A list of recent sales can be found on the Town website or at the Town of Jerusalem Building.

No value change will be disclosed during the informal hearing. You will receive notification by mail, after May 1, 2024. If you still disagree with the assessment you may file a formal written grievance with the Board of Assessment Review. All assessment complaints should be filed on or before Grievance Day. The Board of Assessment Review will meet on May 28, 2028 from 4:00-8:00 pm.
